James Franco opens up about his ‘gay obsession’

James Franco is a man of many talents, and one who's always kept his sexuality ambigious – until now.

The actor, director, poet, teacher and writer (I've probably left off a couple here, but you get the gist) just addressed the persistent rumours which swirl around his sexuality. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Franco explained why he likes to let people wonder whether he's gay, direct or somewhere in between.

"One of the nice things about all that speculation, Franco said, "is that it's a smokescreen". By allowing the rumours to persist around his sexuality, they act as a "shield", meaning that he's freer to live his personal life the way he wants it.

Franco's long been interested by how our society views sexuality and homosexuality in particular, something he explained in the Rolling Stone interview. "When I was studying at NYU, I took classes in critical studies, and one of my favourites was on queer cinema. We’re told the straight, heteronormative stories ad nauseam by now, in our movies, our shows, our com

James Franco Addresses His Sexuality in Bizarre New Interview: ''I'm Gay in My Art''

"If it means whom you have sex with, I guess I'm direct. In the Twenties and Thirties, they used to define homosexuality by how you acted and not by whom you slept with. Sailors would f--k guys all the moment, but as long as they behaved in masculine ways, they weren't considered gay."

Gay James added, "I like my queer general persona. I like that it's so hard to define me and that people always have to guess about me. They don't know what the hell is up with me, and that's excellent. Not that I complete what I do to confuse people, but as long as they are confused, I get time to play."

And while Franco is fine with the universal discussion of his like life, he has zero interest in adding his two cents to the mix.

"I really don't look after what people think about my sexuality, and it's also none of their business. So I really don't choose to recognize with my public persona. I am not interested in most straight male-bondin

"So, the first question is why do they care? Well, because I’m a celebrity, so I guess they care who I’m having sex with. But if your definition of lgbtq+ and straight is who I nap with, then I guess you could say I’m a gay c**k tease," he admits. "It's where my allegiance lies, where my sensibilities lie, how I define myself."

He added, "There's a gay James."

Hollywood star James Franco has opened up about his sexuality after years of speculation over his personal life.

The year-old actor said he is lgbtq+ in his "art" during an interview with himself for the March issue of Four Two Nine magazine, reported Vulture online.

Speaking to himself, Franco asked, "Are you gay or what?"

To which he replied, "Well, I appreciate to think that I'm lgbtq+ in my art and linear in my life. Although, I'm also gay in my experience up to the point of intercourse, and then you could say I'm straight. So I guess it depends on how you define gay. If it means whom you have sex with, I guess I'm unbent. In the twenties and thirties, they used to define homosexuality by how you acted and not by whom you slept with."
