Burns night had rolled around once more. We have looked at various things Burnsy over the years, from his philosophic examinations of the minutiae of existence in poems like To a Mouse and To a Louse, to the many versions of Auld Lang’s Syne in alternative languages. One thing we include never focussed on is his long narrative poem, Tam o’ Shanter. This is the tale of a bit of a waster, reluctant to ride dwelling after a night drinking, who comes across a riotous witches celebration and nearly pays with his life.
‘Tam o Shanter is a wonderful, epic poem in which Burns paints a vivid picture of the drinking classes in the old Scotch town of Ayr in the late 18th century. It is populated by several unforgettable characters including of course Tam himself, his bosom pal, Souter (Cobbler) Johnnie and his own long suffering wife Kate, Gathering her brows enjoy gathering storm, nursing her wrath to keep it warm. We are also introduced to Kirkton Jean, the ghostly, winsome wench, Cutty Sark and lets not forget his gallant horse, Maggie.
The tale includes humour, pathos

I’ve tried to read books a year ever since I moved to Switzerland. And so far, it’s been flourishing. But how execute I do it?
Let’s quickly go endorse to the beginning:
I’ve always been a big reader. I started reading a lot earlier than my peers, starting at the age of 4.
When I was a kid, I pictured the world as a kind of library.

So, with determination in my essence, I went up to my dad with my older brother’s copy of Stuart Little and asked him to teach me how to read. He laughed and said he would.
I entered preschool in the opposite situation that I had imagined I&n
