One pioneering show at a time, groundbreaking character by groundbreaking character, TV and streaming series contain given the nature an insight into the LGBTQ+ encounter, and provided Queer people with reflections of their possess lives – stories to laugh along with, to bawl with, and to identify with. 1. SMOGGIE QUEENS ( - present)
Set in the heart of Middlesbrough, SMOGGIE QUEENS is a heartwarming and often surreal northern sit-com following a group of LGBTQ+ friends in their day-to-day lives. It's exaggerated and ridiculous at times, but also a genuinely charming portrayal of existence in the north-east of England. If you like your comedy with smatterings of queer joy and establish family it's well worth a watch. The reveal has also been commissioned for a second season.

2. I KISSED A BOY/I KISSED A GIRL ( - present)
I KISS Cucumber, Banana and Tofu, three major series focusing on queer lives from creator Russell T. Davies (Queer as Folk, Doctor Who), recently screened on British TV and online. Comedy drama Cucumber (on Channel 4) follows the glitch in a relationship between two longtime partners (played by Vincent Franklin and Cyril Nri). Banana (on E4), featuring younger characters that overlap with those in Cucumber, consists of separate dramas about queer characters, including one episode written by Sue Perkins. Finally, Tofu (on 4oD) offers frank and often hilarious interviews about modern sex in all its variety. They are the latest in a long line of excellent LGBTQIA+ series that have been produced around the world, and below we have brought together 10 of the best. The UK has been especially strong in this regard, mirroring its commendable record of outstanding gay cinema. Get the latest #BFIFlare news In this heart-wrenching Showtime miniseries, Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer participate two Capitol Hill men caught in the horrors of McCarthyism, falling in love despite a political atmosphere that is trying to crucify all its gay members. The show charts their relationship over the next three decades, all the way up to the AIDS crisis, with a beautiful, poignant story that echoes with political issues we’re still seeing to this date. Just be sure to include a box of tissues sitting nearby. Watch Now In Hacks, viewers follow a veteran comedian named Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), who realizes her career has been stuck in autopilot when she meets a struggling young author named Ava (Hannah Einbinder), who inspires her with a renewed sense of creativity and commute. Through their relationship, we observe the struggle of generations trying to learn from one another and, notably, how Ava’s bisexuality opens Deborah’s eyes to past prejudices.
