    Richard Chamberlain comes out of the closet.

    It’s clear the timing of Chamberlain’s announcement is blatently commercial. Chamberlain has said he denied being queer for years because he didn’t want to peril losing parts playing unbent men but now figures he’s too old for romantic leads. So he’s admitting his true orientation - coincidentally in conjunction with the publication of his autobiography. What I see is a dude who figures he’s got all the money he could get out of heterosexuality and now decides to make a not many bucks out of homosexuality.

    Little Nemo kind of sums up my take on Chamberlain’s timing. His career has cooled off enough over the years, that I’d say he was about 10 years too late with his “too old for romantic leads” statement

    I remember seeing headlines about him on supermarket tabloid covers years ago. I always figured his sexuality was the worst kept secret in Hollywood. But hey, if he’s happy and comfortable with himself now, more influence to him.

    Doesn’t change my opinion of him as an actor, my favorite films of his ar

    The stories - which have appeared in the U.S., England and France - claim the year-old bachelor's live-in friend, former ballet dancer Martin Rabbett, has been his male lover for the last 12 years.

    But an angry Chamberlain denied the reports and fumed that "homosexual terrorists" are trying to destroy him.

    "I've had enough with keeping up appearances. That's why I'm officially moving in with my lover Martin Rabbett. We've been lovers for the last 12 years. We're in the process of building a house by the sea, which will be our home. And too awful for those who don't favor it!"

    Hard to consider but Richard Chamberlain, the great star of The Thorn Birds, Shogun and Dr. Kildare, turns 90 today.

    He was pretty much off my radar as a kid until I saw a scene in Thorn Birds where he was dancing (it was the same party where Barbara Stanwyck kissed him on the lips then died) and he was just so HOT!

    From then on, I watched everything he ever did.

    He came out as a lgbtq+ man in and wrote about it in his memoir Shattered Love: &#;When I grew up, entity gay, being a sissy or anything like that was verboten. I disliked myself intensely and feared this part of myself intensely and had to hide it and became &#;Perfect Richard, All-American Boy&#; as a place to hide.&#;

    He continued to be busy in roles both straight and gay – including in recent years playing Felicity Huffman’s same-sex attracted stepfather on Desperate Housewives and Uncle Saul&#;s admire interest on Brothers & Sisters.

    Later films include Forbidden Love, The Perfect Family and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.
